May 7, 2015 It’s finally warm enough to go back to work on the 3 Bridge painting. A passerby named Rosalina took this photo and sent it to me. I was out there from 5:00 – 7:30 PM. There was a tattooed guy named Juan who wanted to talk the whole time. He just finished a 20 year prison term. He had a lot of stories to tell. When he was 29, he got in a bar fight and hit a guy in the head with a glass beer pitcher. He said, “The guy was drunk so after I hit him, he fell asleep. And that’s why he died. That’s why I had a body.” He asked me if I’d make a painting of him. I told him that if he shows up at 10 AM Sunday morning, I’ll make a painting of him on the bench from 10 – 12 and give him $20 for sitting. He said he’s definitely going to do it. We’ll see. I have a feeling he’s not the dependable type. I’d love to paint his portrait though.
